Brett Eastone Ellis and his came back to the literature world.

A book that feels like a cinematic feverish dream full of youth, drugs, explicit sex, and murder with the delightful writing of B.E.E.

People who know me well already know that I am a big fan of Bret’s work, he created one of my favourite characters ever. We need to start this review knowing that I read this book on a ARC COPY i finished it and immediately order a hard cover and signed copy for my own shelf. I would never buy a bad book

this is a very elaborate plot that is set in the 80s, and we follow the POV of a bisexual character (at times he seems more gay who hasn’t come out yet) and the rest of the characters work around him. We follow their lives at the elite Buckley school. Bret as a narrator describes himself as a tangible participant but In privacy, he is sleeping with two boys and a girl, and he is obsessed with a new serial killer roaming the streets of LA, a terrible killer who Abduct and murder young girls. Once a crime occurs close to him and a new school student enters the school, the situation for bret starts to change drastically.

B.E.E is a master of crafting stories, as a fan of his other stories you can find reminiscence strokes of details that make his writing memorable, brett’s use of drugs in his storytelling creates a unique ambiance and adds an emotional rawness to his writing. It’s a characteristic feature of his stories to incorporate substances and that evoke certain emotions. Additionally, Brett’s use of music in the book is fascinating as he weaves it into the plot, making it an integral part of the story. It’s impressive how he uses music as tiny specs and tips to solve the plot. This book kept me thinking about it all day, despite the presence of explicit sex scenes that didn’t really interest me. However, the complex characters and beautiful writing style kept me fully engaged until the end. Overall, it was a captivating read, looking the story through a foggy incandescent and neon window it’s being my favourite reading of 2023. In this blog we decide to give The shards a 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟+ if you read this book let me know what you think about it
