I want to start this review by making it very clear that I am TERRIFIED to write this review. because I am not literate enough to talk about how wonderful the work is in general. I'm just an insignificant fan... get ready because it's going to be a long review. As I write this review, the album Grace by my much-loved Jeff Buckley plays in the background. For masterful works we need a soundtrack of the same caliber. The graphic novel "Sandman" narrates approximately 70-80 years in the life of Morpheus, also known as Dream, who is part of a group of beings called the Eternals. The story begins with Dream being captured by humans in an attempt to capture his sister Death, leading to the development of many stories rich in mythology and religious knowledge. It's difficult to classify "Sandman" into a single genre, as it encompasses elements of horror, fantasy, satire, and historical fiction throughout its volumes. One of the most remarkable aspects of the work is Neil Gaiman's ability to create a complex universe while maintaining narrative cohesion between volumes. The story revolves around Dream, but there are changes in the anthropomorphic representation of the Eternals in different volumes. The work has been praised for its inclusion of non-binary characters and its ability to challenge gender norms.
The publication in periodic installments and fixed length forced Gaiman to structure and partition the story effectively. This resulted in each volume being mostly a self-contained story with its own art, while also maintaining a natural continuation of the previous one, keeping the reader engaged throughout. The richness of each plot arc of the work allows it to be read as a complete work or as individual stories in each volume. The priority in the story is given to the Eternals, a family of entities embodying different aspects of feelings or existence itself. These include Destiny, Death, Morpheus, Desire, Despair, Delirium, and Destruction, each with unique characteristics and roles in the narrative.
Neil Gaiman's skill in storytelling and his creation of complex, multi-dimensional characters have contributed to the enduring popularity and significance of "Sandman" in the world of literature and comics. Neil gaiman is a master of narrative, he is my favourite privileged white man of literature; In this blog, we believe that the graphic novel "Sandman" by Neil Gaiman is a significant work in literature. The novel is not a closed story; it is filled with mythological and mystical characters, including both evil and good beings like Cain and Abel. Neil Gaiman skillfully utilizes narrative frames, creating complex and broad stories. His writing has earned him a place on the throne of the most important authors of our century in the fantasy genre. Despite controversies, such as winning the World Fantasy Prize for volume No. 19 "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Sandman" has undeniably played a vital role in the evolution of comics in the last century. The work's lyricism has attracted an entire generation of young readers, while the depth, rawness, and realism of the stories have captured an audience that already loves the genre. Despite its voluminous nature, "Sandman" is a story worth reading and enjoying. Therefore, we give it a five-star rating to this graphic novel 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
