I began reading this book with the expectation that it would be a typical horror novel from my monthly horror subscription.I was mistaken about this book. It has a rich and intricate storyline that unfolds slowly. We accompany Jin-won as she navigates through a tumultuous period in her life, and the story ultimately takes on a somewhat graphic nature. In a predominantly white country, we often encounter situations where racial discrimination and inequality are prevalent. The book delves into various intriguing topics, and I was particularly fascinated by its intricate plot. After a few slow-paced chapters, the protagonist’s stressful life unfolds, showcasing her struggles with a broken family and the failure to achieve her life goals. As the story progresses, she begins to develop an obsession with blue eyes as part of her quest for revenge. The consumption of the concept of blue eyes is skillfully presented to the readers throughout the narrative. The way the protagonist’s character was developed really resonated with me. I found that the only drawback of the book is that the other characters seem to be too plain. The book left me with a psychological thriller sense rather than a full-on gory horror, but I believe this is simply because of my personal criteria as a reader. The book does a fantastic job of using everyday objects and situations to create a sense of horror. For me The “cotidian horror” refers to the everyday fears and anxieties that often seem more frightening than anything supernatural. We are of the opinion that this book deserves a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating. We are eagerly looking forward to delving into more works by this author.
